September 12 - Welcome Back Social, with news and updates. Also enjoy
sharing
your Summer Challenge "About Entertainment".
There will be presentations by various guild members
who have taken courses/workshops during the summer
and
want to share their experience.
October 10 - Lorraine Smith will guide a hands-on session of fibre
blending
using hand-cards. This technique allows the
spinner or felter to create unique, rich blends of a wide
range of fibres and colours in a simple, versatile and
and portable manner. More details and photos on this
technique can be found at
No experience is required to gain an appreciation for this
indispensable method-- just bring a pair of hand-cards,a
range of fibres to play with, and an open mind. Warning:
participants in this session may never see colour the same
way
again!
Lorraine Smith is a Toronto-based fibre artist and the
publisher

currently in the sixth year of the Ontario Handweavers &
Spinning Association's Certificate program, and is a

November 14- Jette Vandermeiden, an excellent weaver
and former editor of the
OHS
magazine will present "Damask Goes North: The Story of the
Tablecloth". Where does the tablecloth come from? Why is it used?
Tracing the emergence of the tablecloth through the centuries closely
follows the movement of the damask from the Middle East up to
Scandinavia through Europe. The development of the drawloom
and the Jacquard loom in Europe brought enormous cultural and
societal changes to professional weavers of the time. Connections
between religious and political events and the development of
damasks and linens as royal textiles tell an interesting story of the
influence of weaving on world events through the ages
